Overview
The Annapurna Tilicho Lake Trek, organized by The Great Adventure Treks, offers a breathtaking exploration of the diverse landscapes and natural beauty of the Annapurna region. This remarkable journey leads you through majestic mountains, the serene Tilicho Lake, and the sacred Muktinath Temple.
A major highlight of this trek is the visit to Tilicho Lake, which is often considered the world’s highest lake of its size, located at an impressive altitude of 4,920 meters. The lake is surrounded by striking peaks such as Khangsar, Muktinath Peak, Nilgiri, and Tilicho itself. The highest point of the trek is the Thorong La Pass, which stands at 5,416 meters above sea level.
This pass provides one of the best panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. In addition, several other locations on the trail—such as Manang, Muktinath, and Jomsom—offer stunning vistas of the surrounding peaks, including Manaslu, Gangapurna, Pisang, and Chulu.
The itinerary of the Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake trek takes you through traditional villages, terraced farmland, and remote settlements that transition from lush subtropical landscapes to arid alpine terrain. Villages like Pisang, Chame, and Yak Kharka offer a glimpse into the region’s rich Buddhist heritage, while the sacred site of Muktinath Temple provides insight into Hindu beliefs, as it is regarded by Hindus as a source of cosmic energy.
Like the classic Annapurna Circuit, this trek is completed in an anticlockwise direction, allowing for a gradual ascent and better acclimatization, making the journey more comfortable. Overall, the Annapurna Tilicho Lake trek by The Great Adventure Treks is a captivating adventure that showcases the full splendor of the Annapurna region.

Useful Info
Everest Three Passes Trek Difficulty
The Everest Three Passes Trek stands out as one of the toughest adventures Nepal has to offer. Trekkers must navigate extreme altitudes and tackle three demanding mountain passes. This trek is rated 9 out of 10 in terms of difficulty. Even the standard Everest Base Camp trail is no easy feat — and incorporating the three high passes significantly intensifies the challenge.
If you lack prior high-altitude trekking experience, we recommend reconsidering this particular route. Physical preparation is crucial, and we strongly advise getting into excellent shape beforehand. Without proper fitness, completing this trek will be very tough. The journey spans around 17 days, reaching altitudes as high as 5,555 meters. The risk of altitude sickness increases significantly at such elevations. The terrain is rugged, featuring rocky paths and unstable glaciers that can be intimidating — though the breathtaking rewards make it worthwhile. You’ll witness stunning mountain panoramas, crystal-clear glacier lakes, and remote, scenic valleys.
If the Three Passes Trek seems too overwhelming, you can opt for the classic Everest Base Camp Trek. It’s shorter, less strenuous, and still offers a magnificent experience in the Khumbu region.
Best Time and Season for the Everest Three Passes Trek
The ideal seasons for the Everest Three Passes Trek are spring and autumn. Spring in Nepal runs through April to June, while autumn falls between September and November. These months offer the most stable weather, minimizing the risks of snowstorms, landslides, or trail blockages. The dry conditions also reduce the chances of injuries from slippery surfaces.
These seasons provide moderate temperatures — not too cold or hot — making it easier to pack and prepare. The skies are generally clear, giving you uninterrupted views of the Himalayan peaks. Spring also coincides with the Nepali New Year, while autumn brings Nepal’s vibrant festival season, enhancing your cultural experience during the trek.
While trekking in off-seasons is possible, it demands extra caution. Keep in mind that autumn has been arriving later in recent years. The monsoon often extends into late September, making early autumn treks potentially unsuitable. It’s best to verify local conditions before planning your trek.

FAQs
The trek typically takes 16 days to complete, including acclimatization days and travel to and from Lukla.
The most challenging sections are the three high passes:
- Kongma La Pass (5,535m)
- Cho La Pass (5,420m)
- Renjo La Pass (5,345m)
Among these, Kongma La Pass is often considered the toughest due to its high altitude, steep ascent, and icy/glacier terrain.
This trek is not recommended for beginners with no high-altitude trekking experience. It requires good fitness, experience with multi-day trekking, and the ability to handle high altitudes. Beginners should consider doing easier treks like the Everest Base Camp trek first.
The highest point is the Kongma La Pass at 5,535 meters (18,159 feet).
You need to be in good physical condition, with strong cardiovascular endurance, leg strength, and stamina for long days of trekking at high altitudes. Regular aerobic exercise, hiking practice, and strength training before the trek are highly recommended.
It is classified as a challenging to strenuous trek due to the high passes, altitude, and long trekking days. Proper acclimatization and preparation are key.
While it is technically possible to trek without a guide, it is strongly recommended to hire a guide for safety, navigation, permit management, and local support, especially on the challenging passes.
Porters are not mandatory but highly recommended to carry heavy luggage, making the trek easier and allowing you to focus on trekking and acclimatizing safely.
Costs vary widely based on group size, service level, and season, but expect to budget around $1,500 to $2,500 USD for permits, guide/porter fees, accommodation, food, and flights.
The Three Passes trek includes the Everest Base Camp route but is much longer and more challenging. It covers three high mountain passes, remote valleys, and offers more panoramic views and less crowded trails compared to the classic Everest Base Camp trek.
