Overview

This 3-day circuit is a favorite for both locals and travelers with limited time. Starting with a climb through the watershed forests of Sundarijal, you’ll spend your first night in the misty village of Chisapani. The journey continues along a scenic ridge to the famous hill station of Nagarkot, finally descending to the ancient, UNESCO-listed Changu Narayan Temple. It’s a perfect blend of nature, physical activity, and cultural heritage.

🗓️ Best Time to Visit

Spring (March – May): The weather is warm, and the forests are in full bloom with colorful wildflowers.
Autumn (September – November): This is the prime season. Expect crystal-clear skies and the most reliable mountain views after the monsoon.
Winter (December – February): Very clear skies but colder temperatures; perfect for those who enjoy crisp mornings and fewer crowds.

⚠️ Difficulties

This hike is graded as Easy to Moderate.
The “Sundarijal Stairs”: The first day involves a significant number of stone steps as you climb into the National Park.
Duration: You will walk for 5 to 7 hours per day.
Altitude: Reaching a maximum of 2,425m (Borlang Bhanjyang), altitude sickness is rare but staying hydrated is still essential.

✅ Things to Consider Before Your Trip

National Park Permits: You will enter a protected area; keep your permit and passport copy handy for the army checkpoints.
Cash is King: While hotels in Nagarkot may take cards, smaller tea houses in Chisapani require local currency (NPR) for snacks and drinks.
Connectivity: Mobile signal is generally good, but charging ports in Chisapani may be limited or come with a small fee.

Day 01 :

Drive to Sundarijal & Hike to Chisapani

We begin with a 1-hour drive to Sundarijal, a major water source for Kathmandu. The hike starts with a steady climb alongside a massive waterfall and through the Shivapuri National Park. After passing the village of Mulkharka, the trail levels out through oak forests before reaching Chisapani (2,215m). On a clear evening, the sunset over the Himalayas is unforgettable.

Day 02 :

Chisapani to Nagarkot

After a hearty breakfast, embark on a scenic 6 to 7-hour walk. Most of the trail is relatively flat as it follows the ridge, passing through Chowki Bhanjyang where we stop for lunch. The final stretch involves a gentle climb into Nagarkot (2,175m). This evening, relax at your hotel and prepare for tomorrow's early wake-up call.

Day 03 :

Nagarkot to Changu Narayan & Return

Wake up before dawn to catch the sun rising over the Himalayas. After breakfast, we hike downhill through terraced fields and pine groves toward Changu Narayan. After exploring the historic temple complex, our private vehicle will meet you for the drive back to Kathmand

Necessary Equipment and Gears

25-30L Daypack: To carry your water, camera, and extra layers.
Lightweight Down Jacket: Essential for chilly mornings and evenings in Nagarkot.
Sturdy Hiking Shoes: Waterproof shoes are recommended if hiking in the fringes of the monsoon.
Rain Gear: A lightweight poncho or waterproof jacket.
Sun Protection: Sunglasses, sunblock, and a hat.
