Trip Overview
The Exclusive Bhutan Trip is a premier cultural tour that connects the two most iconic Himalayan kingdoms. Starting in the historic Kathmandu Valley, you will fly into the high-altitude Paro airport—a feat of aviation in itself—to explore the heart of Bhutan. This 8-day journey focuses on the “Golden Triangle” of Bhutan: Thimphu, Punakha, and Paro, blending luxury heritage tours with the legendary pilgrimage hike to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery.
Trip Highlights
Tiger’s Nest (Taktsang): The crown jewel of Bhutan, a monastery perched 900m above the valley floor.
Punakha Dzong: Often called the most beautiful fortress in Bhutan, situated at the confluence of two rivers.
Dochula Pass: A mountain pass featuring 108 memorial chortens and panoramic Himalayan views.
Buddha Dordenma: One of the largest sitting Buddha statues in the world, overlooking Thimphu.
Kathmandu Heritage: Explore UNESCO World Heritage sites in Nepal’s vibrant capital.
Top Attractions of the Trip
Memorial Chorten (Thimphu): A focus of daily worship for the Bhutanese people.
Punakha Suspension Bridge: One of the longest and most scenic bridges in the country.
Chimi Lhakhang: The “Fertility Temple” of the Divine Madman, known for its unique cultural history.
Tashichho Dzong: An impressive fortress that serves as the seat of the government.
Boudhanath Stupa (Kathmandu): One of the largest and most sacred Buddhist monuments in the world.
Best Time and Season
Spring (March to May): The best time for clear skies and vibrant flora. Rhododendrons are in full bloom, making the hike to Tiger’s Nest exceptionally beautiful.
Autumn (September to November): The most popular season with crisp air and deep blue skies, perfect for capturing mountain photography.
Winter (December to February): Sunny days but cold nights. Ideal for those who prefer quiet trails and fewer tourists.
Summer (June to August): The monsoon season; while lush and green, rain can occasionally obscure mountain views.
Trip Difficulty
This trip is rated Easy to Moderate. The primary physical challenge is the hike to Tiger’s Nest on Day 6. While the path is well-maintained, it involves a steady ascent and an altitude of over 3,000 meters. The rest of the trip involves light walking and comfortable vehicle transfers.
How to Train for the Trip
Cardio: 30 minutes of brisk walking or light jogging 3 times a week.
Leg Exercises: Squats and lunges to prepare for the 700+ stairs at Tiger’s Nest.
Altitude Prep: If possible, spend time at moderate elevations before the trip to help with acclimatization.
